🏢 About Searchland
Searchland is a high-growth, B2B prop-tech company transforming how businesses and individuals access and leverage property data. Our platform empowers property developers, land agents, architects, and planners with real-time insights, helping them make smarter, data-driven decisions when acquiring and developing land.
In just six years, we’ve built one of the UK’s most advanced property data pipelines, integrating thousands of data sources and processing terabytes of information with less than 24-hour latency. Our cutting-edge platform is shaping the future of property intelligence.
💻 About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Data Quality Engineer to take ownership of the accuracy, recency and reliability of the data that powers our products. Over the past six years we have built one of the largest property data databases in the UK, across 1000s of different datasets with many different collection techniques, along with internal QA tools.
This role will specialise in taking our QA systems further: hardening the validation and anomaly detection that catches problems before our customers do, keeping our scrapers healthy and resilient as sources change under us, and shipping fast, practical tooling that makes the whole team more effective.
This is a role for someone who loves the “why does this look wrong” puzzle and wants to own and raise an existing quality bar rather than maintain someone else’s.
🎯 Responsibilities
- Design and build data quality checks – validation, anomaly detection, freshness and coverage monitoring – across our core data pipelines
- Own and improve production web scraping infrastructure (Playwright, proxy management, anti-bot handling) and keep scraper health visible and actionable
- Build and maintain data orchestration workflows (Dagster or similar) that are reliable and easy to debug
- Develop fast, pragmatic internal QA tools – using AI-assisted coding tools like Claude Code to move quickly — that help the team investigate and resolve data issues
- Work across Python, SQL, dbt and BigQuery to diagnose root causes, not just symptoms
- Get comfortable working in TypeScript/Node where internal tooling calls for it
- Partner across the data and engineering team to raise the overall quality bar, sharing context on what’s fragile and why
✅ What You’ll Bring
- Strong Python and SQL with hands-on experience with dbt and BigQuery
- A track record designing data quality checks – validation, anomaly detection, freshness and coverage monitoring
- Experience running production web scraping at scale – Playwright (or equiv), proxies, anti-bot evasion, and monitoring scraper health
- A fast, pragmatic builder mindset, fluent with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g. Claude Code)
- Experience with a data orchestrator – Dagster ideally, or Airflow/Prefect
- Comfortable working in TypeScript/Node
Nice to have
- Geospatial data experience (PostGIS, GeoPandas, GDAL)
- GCP experience (GCS, Kubernetes/Docker)
- UK planning or property domain knowledge
