Description

Dynamic, respected and growing high voltage (HV) engineering specialists, involved in projects from 11kV – 400kV, require Senior HV Design Engineers with experience designing HV infrastructure (132kV – 400kV), encompassing primary and secondary (control and protection) systems, for a variety of interesting schemes.  These projects include battery storage, substations and renewables.  

Duties:

  • Lead team in the design of substation schemes, whilst working with other engineering disciplines (such as civil and structural)
  • Carry out feasibility studies and conceptual designs for HV engineering schemes
  • Follow this with the preparation of detailed designs, calculations and specifications, ensuring adherence with grid codes, standards and legislation
  • Manage the procurement process, covering supplier qualification, contract negotiation and equipment selection
  • Mentor and guide graduate and junior engineers, playing a key role in their professional growth and development
  • Manage project budgets and resources, making sure project milestones and targets are achieved
  • Lead commissioning and coordinate construction activities
  • Make sure all project documentation is accurately completed
  • Maintain close relationships with end clients and project stakeholders, answering their technical queries and providing project updates

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in the design of HV substation projects (132kV – 400kV), covering areas such as primary and control and protection
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Knowledge of grid codes and standards within the transmission and distribution (T&D) industry
  • Knowledge of the engineering process from a construction and commissioning standpoint
  • Experience in power systems analysis and associated software, such as DigSilent or ETAP
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring and communication skills
  • Holding chartered status would be beneficial
