We spoke to Brendan Cappello, CEO at Rapid G to learn how Employment Hero has transformed their business.
The challenge…
Everyone wants to give their new employees the best possible first impression when they enter your business . That’s why having a proper onboarding and induction process is so important – to let your new starters know that you’re forward-thinking, organised and that they’ve made a great decision choosing to grow their career within your business.
As Brendan and the Rapid G team began to grow quickly, he was faced with onboarding new employees without a system in place. This meant that paperwork was completed on the new starter’s first day and all the legalities of hiring were time-consuming and admin-heavy.
“Before Employment Hero, we didn’t have anything in place when it came to inductions. There were no inductions during onboarding. It was actually a little bit daunting when we secured a new team member, just because we had to find where the files were and we’d have to find out all the legalities of what we were doing”, Brendan said.
But it wasn’t just the time saved on onboarding admin that Brendan saw value in, he also realised that it could improve employee retention.
“The reason we actually engaged Employment Hero in the first place was because we secured a really good, talented person. And I was thinking, oh my gosh, if this person joins us and sees our paper-based onboarding and induction, there is absolutely no way they’re going to continue working here.”

I think I was actually quite shocked at how great the induction process is”, said Brendan.

“We’ve actually now been able to save a full day of work. So to calculate that into dollars, it’s really saving us nearly $300 per onboarding. Due to the fact of not having to sit with someone on their first day.”

“We’ve developed an onboarding schedule for when they start. The first thing is to jump onto Employment Hero, go through the instructional videos that we’ve created, and we’ve set them up so they can be watched and ticked off on their first day.,” said Brendan.

“I know for our team, Employment Hero has been a great addition. They can see and do everything through the Swag app – managing expenses, putting in leads, seeing when staff are away. That’s a really incredible package.”

Having visibility over which employee is assigned to what asset in the business is always an important part of HR admin, however it often gets overlooked. With the Asset Register in Employment Hero, you can see who owns what, when, and for how long. Not only does it improve transparency and accountability, but also helps reduce loss and forecast asset depreciation.
“The Asset Register feature is really good. We’re managing everything, even down to keyboards and mice. Whenever things are getting purchased, they’re getting put into the Asset Register, so we can really see if people are going through things quicker than what we thought. We can also add serial numbers, so we can see if people are taking things or how often they bought it. It’s also really good for that granular management of office supplies and equipment”, Brendan said.
