Description

Rising to Success

The school office is looking for a warm and capable person to run the front desk each morning.

You will be the first point of contact — welcoming students, staff, parents, and visitors in person, on the phone, and by email. You will open the office each morning and keep it calm, organised, and responsive.

What you will do

  • Provide a warm, professional welcome at the front desk.
  • Answer and direct phone calls and general enquiries.
  • Contact parents and caregivers about absences, late arrivals, and unwell children.
  • Record and follow up daily attendance in the student system.
  • Provide first-aid first response and sick-bay care.
  • Support student data entry and enrolments.
  • Help with photocopying, mail, notices, and general office administration.

What you will bring

  • A warm, calm manner with children, parents, and staff.
  • Strong organisation and the ability to stay composed when the office is busy.
  • Accuracy and care with student data and records.
  • Good computer skills (Google Workspace, and a school student system, or the ability to learn).
  • Discretion and confidentiality.
  • A commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to building te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, reflecting the school community and the partnership with Ngāti Tūwharetoa.

Wairakei Primary School is a Year 0–6 school north of Taupō, educating ākonga with POWER — Pride, Opportunity, Whānau, Excellence, and Respect — to be confident learners, Rising to Success.

The details

  • Part-time, term-time only: 17.5 hours a week, 8:00am–11:30am, Monday to Friday.
  • Start Monday 10 August 2026, or by negotiation.
  • Based on site in the school office.
  • Pay is set under the Support Staff in Schools’ Collective Agreement (SSSCA), with grade and step determined by experience.
  • A current First Aid certificate (or willingness to gain one) is required.
  • Appointment and position commencement are subject to a satisfactory safety check, including a New Zealand Police vet, under the Children’s Act 2014. This check must be complete before a start date is confirmed.
