Description

thePHO is looking for an IT Administrator to help keep our systems running smoothly, our people supported, and our patient data safe.

This role matters because great IT isn’t just about technology — it’s about enabling better healthcare. When systems work well, practices can focus on what really counts: caring for patients.

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi

Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, you’ll play a hands-on role in keeping our digital environment secure, reliable, and easy to use.

You’ll be part of a small, capable team where your work has real impact — supporting thePHO staff and general practices across Aotearoa.

You’ll work across Microsoft 365, cloud services, endpoint devices, and helpdesk support — contributing to a secure and compliant environment in a national health organisation.

We’re remote-first, flexible by default, and focused on what matters.

What you’ll be doing | Ngā mahi matua

No two days are the same — but here’s a flavour:

  • Keep our Microsoft 365 environment running smoothly (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Intune and more)
  • Support staff with day‑to‑day IT issues — from quick fixes to deeper problem solving
  • Manage users, access, and devices — making sure the right people have the right access at the right time
  • Monitor security and respond to alerts — helping protect sensitive health information
  • Keep systems secure and compliant with national health standards
  • Support cloud services, backups, and infrastructure so everything keeps running reliably
  • Work alongside general practices — helping them with IT queries and system support

This is a practical, hands-on role where you’ll see the impact of your work every day.

About you | Ko wai koe

You’re someone who enjoys solving problems, helping people, and making things work better.

You’ll likely bring:

  • Solid experience in IT administration (ideally 3+ years)
  • Confidence with Microsoft 365 and endpoint/device management
  • A good understanding of cybersecurity basics like MFA and patching
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a calm, practical approach
  • The ability to explain technical things in plain language

Bonus points if you’ve worked in health or primary care, or have experience with systems like Medtech, Indici, or MyPractice.

Most importantly, you care about doing things well — especially when it comes to privacy, security, and supporting others.
