The Role
We are seeking a reliable Yard/Landfill Operator to support daily operations at our Bowen Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility. You will operate plant and equipment, assist with the movement and processing of waste and recyclables, maintain a clean and organised site, and work safely as part of a small operational team.
What you’ll be doing
- Operate waste management plant and equipment safely and efficiently across the landfill and resource recovery facility.
- Carry out daily inspections and basic maintenance checks on plant and equipment used to process waste and recyclables.
- Process, sort, move and dispose of waste in line with site management plans, environmental requirements and operational procedures.
- Maintain landfill cells, stormwater collection areas, yard presentation and general site cleanliness.
- Communicate with weighbridge staff, supervisors and team members to support the safe and effective flow of site operations.
- Assist with the implementation of waste management initiatives and continuous improvement activities on site.
- Follow all health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and site requirements at all times.
About You
You are a reliable, safety-minded operator who takes pride in practical, hands-on work and enjoys being part of a small operational team. You have a strong eye for detail, can work efficiently with minimal supervision, and are committed to keeping the site safe, organised and environmentally responsible.
You’ll bring
- Relevant experience in waste management operations, civil operations or a similar hands-on operational environment.
- Strong mechanical and technical skills, with the ability to operate waste management equipment and machinery safely.
- Relevant licences or tickets, such as HR licence, excavator, loader and/or compactor tickets. (desirable)
- A strong commitment to safety, environmental sustainability and following site procedures.
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to work efficiently in a small team environment.
- Ability to work safely and productively with minimal supervision.
- Basic ability to use smartphones, online reporting tools and recording apps.
- A current driver’s licence and reliable transport.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and regular random drug and alcohol testing.
