About Umwelt  

Umwelt is an Australian owned environmental consultancy operating for over 30 years, with 9 offices nationwide. We are a team of vibrant professionals with experience across a range of sectors including renewables, infrastructure, defence, regulation and policy, resources, and the urban development sector. 

We are seeking to appoint a Water Engineer to be based in our Brisbane office. This position supports the internal Water Services team to deliver technical surface water and groundwater assessments for a diverse client base. 

This role involves working closely within the Water Services team, while also collaborating with other technical disciplines across the business. You will be responsible for delivering high quality technical work and supporting Technical Leads, Principals and Managers on projects. The successful candidate will be capable of working to scope, budget and schedule to contribute to successful project delivery. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Undertaking research, data analysis and technical assessments to support project outcomes 
  • Preparing high quality reports and deliverables in line with professional and regulatory standards 
  • Assisting with surface water and groundwater investigations 
  • Building your technical expertise across relevant legislation, policy and environmental science 
  • Supporting project delivery by working to scope, budget and timelines 
  • Following Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and project management requirements 
  • Collaborating with Project Managers, Directors and Senior team members to deliver successful outcomes 
  • Maintaining accurate project documentation and utilising systems such as SharePoint 
  • Using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to support project work 
  • Review, analyse and interpret surface water data 
  • Utilise relevant surface water software for flood modelling, water quality analysis and bore logs 

About You: 

  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology or related field 
  • Experience in surface water assessments (consulting experience desirable) 
  • Exposure and/or interest in surface water software modelling tools hydrology (ie WBNM, RORB, URBS), hydraulics (HEC-RAS, TUFLOW), stormwater design (Music, SWMM), water balance models (GoldSIM) and water quality analysis, visualisation (i.e. AutoCAD) and GIS software (i.e.QGIS). 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Sound data analysis and investigation skills 
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines 
  • A proactive team player with a willingness to learn and grow
