Umwelt’s portfolio has more new and exciting projects in the biodiversity sector, which is expanding as South Australia moves towards renewable energy and tries to balance development with strategic conservation and offsetting outcomes. This expansion offers exciting prospects for enthusiastic ecologists at any career stage, from early to senior, who want to be part of a team with steady work and incredible project diversity.

We are a growing company with a vision to make a difference, and we are looking for Field Ecologists at all levels who are ready to enhance their ecological consulting career working within our South Australian ecology team. We seek candidates who have finished their studies and acquired some experience in conducting ecological field work and who are keen to travel and develop their technical skills in mapping vegetation and habitat and undertaking flora and fauna surveys.  This role is field based, targeting surveys in spring and summer 2026/2027 in a range of locations throughout South Australia.

About You:

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Ecologists (Graduate or Other) who meet the following criteria:

• A degree or postgraduate qualification (or in progress) in environmental science, botany, zoology, or a related field
• A strong desire to work flexible hours and travel for ecological fieldwork including possible trips of extended duration (one week or greater) in rural or remote regions
• Experience in undertaking ecological surveys and a demonstrated passion for flora and/or fauna
• Ability to work in a professional team as well as autonomously. Capability to effectively communicate with team members
• Experience in GIS and electronic data capture (preferred)
• Appreciation of the importance of WHS matters
