About the Opportunity
Umwelt is experiencing continued growth across the biodiversity sector, driven by an expanding portfolio of diverse and impactful projects throughout the ACT and surrounding regions. This includes supporting renewable energy initiatives, ecological constraints assessments and strategic conservation planning, management and restoration projects. There has never been a more exciting time to join our ACT Ecology team.
We are seeking motivated early career casual Field Ecologists who are looking to build their ecological consulting careers within a supportive and growing organisation. Working as part of our ACT Ecology team, you will contribute to a wide range of projects while gaining exposure to varied field environments and technical challenges.
These field based role is ideal for candidates who have completed their studies and have some experience undertaking ecological fieldwork. You will have opportunities to further develop your skills in vegetation and habitat mapping, flora and fauna surveys and ecological assessment techniques. These positions will focus on field surveys during the 2026/2027 spring and summer seasons across the ACT, with opportunities to work on projects in New South Wales. Subject to business requirements, permanent employment opportunities may be available following the seasonal survey period.
About You:
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Field Ecologists who meet the following criteria:
- A degree or postgraduate qualification (or in progress) in environmental science, botany, zoology, or a related field
- A strong desire to work flexible hours and travel for ecological fieldwork including possible trips of extended duration (one week or greater) in rural or remote regions
- Experience in undertaking ecological surveys and a demonstrated passion for flora and/or fauna
- Ability to work in a professional team as well as autonomously. Capability to effectively communicate with team members
- Experience in GIS and electronic data capture (preferred)
- Appreciation of the importance of WHS matters
