Tuley is seeking several proactive, compassionate and reliable Support Workers to become part of a small and consistent team supporting a thoughtful, intelligent and creative woman living independently in Beldon.
This is an opportunity to build genuine, long-term relationships with someone who values trust, faith, learning, personal growth and meaningful connection. We are looking for support workers who enjoy walking alongside people as they pursue their goals, develop confidence and create a life that reflects what matters most to them.
About the Participant
The participant is a bright, insightful and highly educated woman who enjoys music, art, nature, animals, theology, technology, learning and research. She is a devout Catholic and values opportunities to grow in her faith, contribute to her community and continue building her independence.
Like many autistic people, she thrives when those around her understand the importance of predictability, clear communication, autonomy and respecting individual differences. She values support workers who are patient, emotionally mature, organised, dependable and genuinely interested in getting to know her as a person. Consistency, trust and strong relationships matter.
We Are Looking for Neuroaffirming Support Workers
We believe great support starts with understanding.
The successful applicants will understand that autism and ADHD are natural variations in how people experience and interact with the world. Rather than focusing on changing who someone is, you will support the participant to build on her strengths, navigate challenges and pursue goals that are meaningful to her.
You will understand that capacity can fluctuate from day to day. Some days she may feel motivated and ready to actively participate in planning, cooking, organising and community activities. Other days, fatigue, sensory overwhelm, anxiety or health challenges may make these activities much harder.
The right support workers will know how to:
- Encourage participation without pressure.
- Work alongside the participant rather than taking over.
- Recognise when a gentle prompt may be helpful.
- Support autonomy whilst providing structure where needed.
- Create momentum when tasks feel overwhelming.
- Step in and provide practical assistance when required.
- Celebrate strengths whilst supporting areas of challenge.
- Respect sensory needs, communication preferences and individual ways of doing things.
The Difference You Can Make
One of the most important qualities we are seeking is initiative.
The participant benefits most from support workers who naturally notice what needs doing and are happy to take positive action. We are looking for people who actively contribute to making each day meaningful, engaging and productive.
The ideal applicants will be people who:
- Notice opportunities to support independence and wellbeing.
- Think ahead and plan proactively.
- Get started on meaningful tasks without needing constant direction.
- Bring ideas, enthusiasm and positive energy to their shifts.
- Genuinely enjoy helping someone work towards their goals.
- Understand that good support is about creating opportunities, building skills and enhancing quality of life.
- Leave things better than they found them.
You will be trusted to use your judgement, take initiative and actively contribute to creating a life that is engaging, balanced and purposeful.
A Genuine Love of Cooking Is Essential
One of the most important aspects of this role is supporting healthy nutrition, meal preparation and daily routines.
There are times when the participant enjoys learning, participating and building skills alongside support workers. There are also times when fatigue, sensory overwhelm or health challenges can make planning and preparing meals difficult.
We are looking for support workers who:
- Enjoy cooking and preparing nutritious meals.
- Like exploring recipes and meal planning.
- Are comfortable using a Thermomix.
- Can make cooking a shared and enjoyable activity when the participant would like to be involved.
- Are equally comfortable taking the lead and preparing meals independently when she is unable to participate.
- Understand the importance of maintaining nutrition and routine during more challenging periods.
- Can create calm, organised kitchen environments that reduce overwhelm.
- See meal preparation as an opportunity for skill-building, confidence-building and connection.
About the Role
Supports may include:
- Community access and attending appointments.
- Shopping and budgeting support.
- Meal planning, grocery shopping and meal preparation.
- Household organisation and routine building.
- Supporting participation in church, community and recreational activities.
- Implementing strategies that reduce anxiety and sensory overwhelm.
- Encouraging independence, confidence and skill development.
- Supporting the participant to work towards meaningful personal goals and increased community involvement.
What Will Make You a Great Fit?
You are likely to be someone who is:
- Kind, warm and approachable.
- Naturally proactive and able to take initiative.
- Organised, dependable and reliable.
- Calm and steady under pressure.
- Emotionally intelligent and empathetic.
- Curious, reflective and willing to learn.
- Neuroaffirming in your approach.
- A clear and respectful communicator.
- Respectful of professional boundaries.
- Faith-sensitive and respectful of Catholic values.
- Someone who genuinely enjoys helping people build meaningful, connected and fulfilling lives.
- The type of person who sees possibilities, opportunities and strengths rather than simply tasks to complete.
Desirable Experience
Experience supporting people with any of the following would be highly regarded:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) using a neuroaffirming approach.
- ADHD.
- Anxiety and psychosocial disability.
- Executive functioning challenges.
- Sensory processing differences.
- Community participation and capacity building.
- Trauma-informed practice.
- Dysphagia awareness and mealtime support.
Essential Requirements
- NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Working With Children Check.
- Current Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle.
- Smartphone and confidence using technology.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
