The opportunity

A rewarding opportunity is currently available for an Occupational Therapist to join the team, consolidating and implementing your therapy skills across a broad spectrum of neurological clinical areas. The position is full-time.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to use your unique set of skills, and knowledge base as a therapist, in a busy, dynamic learning environment, across a wide range of neurological clinical areas.

Work alongside and absorb knowledge, formally and informally, from your new colleagues. Steps has highly experienced therapists who work in complex wheelchair prescription, upper limb therapy, high level AT requests, mild, moderate and severe TBI presentations, complete and in-complete spinal cord injured clients and more. Our clinicians caseloads are tailored to their areas of clinical interest – join Steps and hit the jackpot with your dream client list.

Steps in-house weekly professional development program encompasses a range of learning and knowledge sharing opportunities, including but not limited to clinical skills sessions; conference and clinical course presentations; brains trust; external presenters; journal club; reflective practice; mentoring sessions; and more. Our PD process – clinicians are consulted, and PD topics are delivered to meet need and interest.

Steps also runs a quality improvement service that ensures all current evidence and new and emerging technology are adopted appropriately in our workplace. At the moment we are working on implementation virtual reality technology into our everyday clinical practice; fabrication of upper limb splints including custom push mitts for active wheelchair users; ABI specific groups and the list goes on. Steps is committed to continuing to explore new ways we can build on our client experience, and get better outcomes.

The position is full-time (38 hours per week).

Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality occupational therapy in a wide range of settings including client homes, local community, workplaces and in the clinic

Home modifications assessments and applications

Functional retraining for everyday activities

Assessment and prescription of complex Assistive Technology

Wheelchair and Seating assessment and prescription

Formal Functional Assessments

Upper limb retraining and management

Splinting (typing, writing, resting splints etc..)

Vocational consultancy

Cognitive assessment and intervention

Community ADL retraining (including leisure)

Requirements

Current unrestricted working rights

Valid AHPRA Occupational Therapy registration

Drivers licence and access to a car if the company cars are not available

Minimum of 2 years of experience working with neurological caseloads

Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment

Supportive, positive mindset

Experience working with funding bodies such as TAC and NDIS (desirable)

Knowledge of wheelchair prescription (desirable)

Experience with Spinal Cord Injury (desirable)
