About the role

Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) is the national body representing more than 16,000 speech pathology professionals. SPA promotes ethical, clinical and professional standards and advocates for Australians with communication and swallowing difficulties.

Speech Pathology Australia is seeking an experienced, solutions-focused Regulation Officer to support regulatory functions that maintain professional standards. The role focuses on assessing overseas-qualified speech pathologists and supporting the Certification and Return to Practice programs.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Undertake skills assessments for overseas-qualified speech pathologists.
  • Support the Certification Program, including annual audits, and coordinate the Return to Practice Program.
  • Respond to complex enquiries from applicants, members, stakeholders and the public.
  • Support the preparation of professional reports and communications.
  • Contribute to reviews of relevant guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records using the document management system.
  • Represent Speech Pathology Australia at relevant external meetings and forums.
  • Support university accreditation processes.
  • Assist with the application of ethics procedures when managing complaints.
  • Champion continuous improvement across regulatory processes and activities.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience undertaking competency-based assessments.
  • Experience in mentoring and/or supervising students or staff.
  • A minimum of five years’ professional experience.
  • The ability to apply procedures consistently, objectively and with sound judgement.
  • Strong initiative and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and in a culturally responsive way.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, stakeholder engagement, plain-English writing and proofreading skills.
  • Alignment with the values, aspirations and strategic direction of Speech Pathology Australia.

The following would be highly regarded:

  • Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status.
  • An academic or research background in speech pathology.
  • Postgraduate qualifications.
