Salute For Service is an Australian non-profit organization committed to supporting current

and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). We focus on employment,

education, training, and pathways to mental, physical, and psychosocial health, offering a

holistic approach to transitioning to civilian life. Additionally, we provide dedicated programs

like Legacy Learning, supporting the educational needs of veterans’ children.

Role Overview

The Graduate Social Worker will deliver entry-level social work services under the

supervision of experienced professionals. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain

practical experience while supporting the veteran community. Key responsibilities include

client assessments, care planning, counseling, and coordination of access to necessary

services, with a focus on professional development. The role also involves supporting the

Legacy Learning program, ensuring tailored educational support for the children of

veterans.

Key Responsibilities

Client Assessment and Support:

● Conduct initial assessments of veterans’ needs, strengths, and goals under

supervision.

● Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of care plans.

● Provide supportive counseling to veterans and their families, focusing on mental,

physical, and psychosocial health.

Employment, Education, and Training Support:

● Support clients in exploring employment, education, and training pathways.

● Work collaboratively with local employers, educational institutions, and training

providers to identify opportunities.

● Help veterans with resume preparation, job applications, and interview techniques.

Health and Wellbeing:

● Facilitate access to mental health, physical health, and psychosocial support

services.

● Coordinate with healthcare providers to ensure integrated care.

● Educate clients on basic health management and wellness strategies.

Legacy Learning Program:

● Provide one-on-one support to veterans’ children to address their educational needs.

● Collaborate with schools and educational institutions to ensure access to tailored

learning resources.

● Advocate for additional support services for children eligible under the VCES and

MRCAETS DVA schemes.

● Assist families in navigating education pathways, including tutoring and academic

assistance.

Compliance and Reporting:

● Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with organizational

policies.

● Prepare reports and documentation as required for program evaluation and

compliance.

Advocacy and Networking:

● Advocate for veterans’ and their families’ access to services and resources.

● Participate in community outreach activities to promote Salute For Service’s

programs, including Legacy Learning.

● Build professional networks with government agencies, non-profits, and community

groups.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

● Recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work from an

accredited institution.

● Eligible for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

● Demonstrated understanding of mental health, physical health, and psychosocial

issues affecting veterans and their families.

● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

● A commitment to learning and professional development.

Desirable:

● Experience (e.g., placement or volunteer work) in a community or education-focused

setting.

● Familiarity with services available to veterans and their families or an interest in

supporting the veteran community.
