Job Description: Operations Manager

Job Purpose

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the organization, ensuring maximum productivity, efficiency, and quality. This role bridges the gap between high-level strategy and ground-level execution, optimizing processes, managing budgets, and leading cross-functional teams to drive sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Excellence & Process Optimization

  • Design, implement, and maintain efficient operational systems, workflows, and company policies.
  • Monitor daily business activities and clear bottlenecks to ensure smooth, uninterrupted service or production delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, cost reduction, and quality improvement across departments.

2. Team Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, mentor, and manage department heads or supervisory staff to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Set clear performance goals (KPIs) and conduct regular reviews and professional development assessments.
  • Collaborate with HR on workforce planning, recruitment, and onboarding strategies.

3. Financial & Resource Management

  • Assist in managing the operational budget, ensuring departments operate within financial boundaries.
  • Analyze operational data, financial reports, and metrics to forecast requirements and optimize resource allocation.
  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement processes.

4. Risk, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all business operations adhere to relevant Australian laws, Fair Work regulations, and WHS (Work Health and Safety) standards.
  • Implement robust risk mitigation strategies and business continuity plans.
  • Oversee quality control measures to ensure customer/client satisfaction remains high.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of proven experience as an Operations Manager, Operations Lead, or a similar senior management role.
  • Leadership: Strong people management skills with a track record of building and motivating cohesive teams.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis, budgeting, and using operational metrics to drive decisions.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Tech Savvy: Familiarity with project management tools, ERP software, and CRM platforms.

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma, Agile, or equivalent project management methodologies.
