Are you an experienced accountant who enjoys combining technical finance, people leadership and process improvement?

Mercy Connect is seeking a Finance Team Leader to lead the day-to-day operation of our established Finance Team. This is a senior, hands-on role with responsibility across management accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll oversight, accounts payable, accounts receivable and finance systems improvement.

Working closely with the Finance & Technology Manager and Chief Financial Officer, you will help translate financial information into practical insights, strengthen finance capability and support sound operational and strategic decision-making.

The opportunity

You will lead an existing team with responsibilities across:

• Payroll operations
• Accounts payable
• Accounts receivable and debtor management
• Finance administration and transactional processing
• Month-end close, reconciliations and reporting
• Financial analysis and business intelligence

The role combines the responsibilities of a traditional Management Accountant with the day-to-day leadership and coordination of the finance function. You will remain close enough to the detail to understand issues and provide technical guidance, while developing the team, improving controls and helping senior leaders understand financial performance.

What you will bring

Essential

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a closely related discipline.
• Strong management accounting experience, including budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, analysis and management reporting.
• Demonstrated experience leading, coordinating or developing a finance team.
• Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and financial control principles.
• The ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate it clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
• Confidence working across both strategic and hands-on finance responsibilities.
• Experience using accounting and financial management systems.
• A demonstrated commitment to process improvement, automation or reporting enhancement.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-engagement skills.

Highly regarded

• CA or CPA qualification, or substantial progress toward completion.
• Experience in disability services, community services, health, government-funded services or the not-for-profit sector.
• Understanding of NDIS funding, billing, claiming or compliance requirements.
• Experience developing business intelligence or performance reporting.
• Experience coordinating month-end, payroll, accounts receivable or accounts payable processes.

Strong accounting fundamentals and people-leadership capability are more important than prior NDIS experience. Applicants with transferable experience from another complex, regulated or government-funded environment are encouraged to apply.
