About the Role:

Based in Melbourne and reporting to the Head of Hardware, the Production Engineering Manager optimises manufacturing processes and oversees production execution to achieve quality and output targets efficiently. Key responsibilities span process engineering (NPI, DFM, CI) and operational oversight (planning, procurement, inventory), demanding strong engineering leadership and problem-solving skills.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Overseeing Production

  • Planning production and where necessary reorganising to best meet production and customer deliverables
  • Helping out in production were required to ensure delivery timelines are kept
  • Ensuring that production is running efficiently and according to schedule
  • Ensuring that operators have all the necessary tools and training to complete their task effectively
  • Overseeing and ensuring that purchasings and inventory management is completed in a timely manner to ensure uninterrupted production
  • Proactively update BOMS/work instructions and other materials related to manufacturing to streamline production

Process Improvement

  • Through observation and working closely with the production technicians identify opportunities for process improvement such as: efficiency, quality, repeatability & simplification.
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing and administrative operations with a focus on quality, cost and efficiency
  • Refine, develop and review work instructions as needed
  • Identify, design and implement jigs and fixtures to aid production
  • Create and maintain documentation related to operation and production process

Management

  • Provide accurate and up to date reporting on factory performance and metrics related to production
  • Oversee the purchasing and production teams
  • Identify opportunities for training and upskilling of production and procurement teams
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to direct reports, helping develop strategies to strengthen performance

Quality Assurance

  • Create and maintain detailed reports for critical QA parts and System
  • Determine and document test procedures as well as help specify part expected life and performance given testing and research
  • Conduct and critical QA and ensure that all MEQ products and systems are of the highest quality and standard

About You:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, (Production, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.) or Essential: 4+ Years experience in comparable role
  • Experience in production environments
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and process improvement strategies.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chain logistics, including ERP/MRP systems and inventory management.
  • Prior Quality Control experience and a detailed understanding of material science and selection.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational abilities, capable of managing complex scheduling and procurement.
  • Proficient in CAD software (Solidworks, Fusion 360, etc.).
  • Knowledgeable in AC/DC electrical design.
  • Experience/Exposure to firmware design (C++, Arduino).
  • Previous design experience in Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Mechanical, Electronics, Electromechanical, or Consumer Products.
  • Expertise in bespoke solutions engineering.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with Australian and international standards.
