Jagun Alliance is recruiting for two Project Officer roles. The first is a field-focused role supporting the Heal the Rivers and related bush regeneration projects, spending around 60% of the time on Country with Ranger teams, assisting work programs, liaising with landholders and Aboriginal communities, and supporting mentoring, training and compliance to deliver restoration outcomes that reflect cultural and ecological priorities. The second supports the Good Fire Gathering project and is more community-facing, involving direct engagement with Aboriginal community members and rights holders, coordinating workshops and field activities, and respecting the use of cultural fire knowledge in disaster resilience strategies, along with assisting with documentation, reporting and communication materials that share the project’s progress with stakeholders. Both roles collaborate closely with Jagun staff, cultural advisors, community members and partner organisations.

Employment Type 

Fixed term; part time or full time (negotiable) 

Salary 

$70,000 to $85,000 p.a. (1.0 FTE) plus 12% superannuation (pro rata to agreed FTE) 

Location 

Lismore office; field locations across the Northern Rivers region and Bundjalung Country. Flexible arrangements will be considered. 

Reports to 

Project Coordinator or Caring for Country Lead (as assigned) 

Other requirements 

Current driver’s licence. Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or commitment to obtain) 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Support the planning, implementation and reporting of project activities in line with project plans, cultural protocols and WHS requirements. 
• Assist with community engagement activities including workshops, meetings, field visits and cultural events. 
• Build and maintain respectful relationships with community members, Elders, cultural advisors, Jagun staff, partner organisations and other stakeholders. 
• Support cultural governance processes, including facilitating or assisting Cultural Expert/Advisory Groups as required. 
• Assist in collecting, recording and managing project data and information in accordance with cultural protocols and data sharing agreements. 
• Contribute to project communications including photos, videos and written updates for communities and funders. 
• Maintain accurate project records and support monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) activities. 
• Support the implementation of project management systems, policies, procedures and risk assessments. 
• Attend relevant forums, training and workshops to support project objectives. 
• Undertake other duties as directed by your supervisor. 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and culturally diverse people. 
• Experience in community engagement and working with local communities. 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. 
• Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to listen and synthesise multiple perspectives. 
• Organised approach to record keeping and reporting, including experience with Microsoft 365. 
• Digital literacy including the ability to use online platforms, tools and systems relevant to project delivery. 
• Current driver’s licence; willingness to drive 4WD vehicles and undertake field-based activities, including occasional overnight stays. 

DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

• Tertiary or vocational qualification in environmental science, ecological restoration, education, health, social sciences or a related field. 
• Experience with GIS, mapping tools or spatial data collection. 
• Caring for Country, knowledge and/or cultural skills and experience relevant to the Northern Rivers region. 
• Familiarity with project management software (e.g. Monday.com).
