About the Role
As a Transaction Monitoring & Fraud Analyst, you’ll play a key role in protecting the integrity of Hello Clever’s global payments platform. Working at the intersection of fraud, financial crime, data, and operations, you’ll investigate suspicious activity, monitor transaction behaviour, identify emerging fraud patterns, and help strengthen the controls that keep our customers and merchants safe.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, thinking analytically, and using data to drive better decisions. You’ll work closely with teams across Compliance, Product, Engineering, Operations, and Fraud to improve monitoring capabilities, reduce risk, and help build scalable processes as we continue expanding across global markets.
Key responsibilities
- Review transaction-monitoring, AML, and fraud alerts across global payment flows; investigate suspicious activity, identify red flags, and escalate cases in line with internal procedures and regulatory expectations.
- Conduct KYC/CDD reviews and support enhanced due diligence for higher-risk customers, merchants, transactions, or behaviours, ensuring risks are assessed and documented appropriately.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and audit-ready investigation records, including case narratives, evidence, decision rationale, escalation notes, and recommended next steps.
- Support suspicious activity escalation preparation for review by senior team members, Compliance, or MLRO-equivalent stakeholders, ensuring timely and well-substantiated case handling.
- Analyse transaction and platform data using SQL to identify emerging fraud patterns, unusual behaviours, typologies, false positives, and control gaps.
- Help tune and enhance transaction-monitoring and fraud detection rules, thresholds, scenarios, and alert logic based on observed trends, case outcomes, and false-positive analysis.
- Build, refine, and maintain SOPs, investigation guides, escalation matrices, and monitoring playbooks as the fraud and transaction-monitoring function matures.
- Partner closely with Fraud, Transaction Monitoring, Compliance, Product, Data, Operations, and Engineering teams on cross-functional investigations, control enhancements, and process improvements.
- Support incident reviews and root-cause analysis for fraud events, control failures, or unusual activity patterns, contributing to remediation actions that reduce losses and strengthen monitoring effectiveness.
Required qualifications
- 2–3 years of experience in transaction monitoring, fraud analysis, AML operations, financial crime, payments risk, or risk operations within a fintech, bank, payments company, or regulated financial services environment.
- Good understanding of fraud typologies, AML transaction-monitoring concepts, payment risk indicators, suspicious activity red flags, and customer/merchant risk factors.
- Strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and excellent attention to detail, with the ability to review complex cases and make well-reasoned recommendations.
- Working knowledge of SQL, with the ability to query, analyse, and interpret data to support investigations, monitoring, reporting, and trend analysis.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with a builder mindset and willingness to improve processes, playbooks, and controls from the ground up.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document investigation findings clearly and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Business-level fluency in English and Vietnamese is required.
Preferred / nice-to-have
- Experience using fraud, AML, transaction-monitoring, case-management, or payments-risk tools.
- Payments-specific fraud experience, including exposure to cards, bank transfers, wallets, real-time payments, merchant acquiring, chargebacks, account takeover, mule activity, scams, or payment abuse.
- Experience supporting rule tuning, threshold optimisation, false-positive reduction, dashboard monitoring, or fraud/AML reporting.
- Familiarity with regulatory expectations related to AML/CFT, suspicious activity escalation, KYC/CDD, enhanced due diligence, or financial crime controls in payments or fintech environments.
