Description

Are you ready to be an integral member of the financial operations at a leading South-east Queensland builder-developer? Gardner Vaughan is seeking a sharp, detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to drive our financial reporting, payroll, and overhead accounting.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller with secondary support to the CFO, you will play a central role in managing our overhead entities, processing fortnightly payroll, and maintaining robust financial controls. You will also provide vital backup accounting support for our construction and development entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Control: Manage overhead accounting, reconciliations, balance sheet reviews, budget tracking, and statutory returns.
  • End-to-End Payroll: Deliver fortnightly payroll and manage associated compliance, payroll tax, and superannuation obligations.
  • Accounts Payable & Recharges: Oversee overhead invoice processing, payment runs, rent schedules, and intercompany recharges.
  • Entity & Project Support: Serve as key accounting backup for active construction projects and SPVs.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner directly with project managers, contract administrators, and site supervisors on financial queries.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on accounting experience.
  • Payroll & Systems Expertise: Practical payroll experience is essential. Experience with Xero, Employment Hero Payroll, and ApprovalMax is highly regarded.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of general accounting, GST/BAS requirements, and Queensland construction-sector regulations.
  • Attributes: High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a collaborative mindset that embraces open communication and thoughtful disagreement.
