Position Overview:
We’re seeking an experienced QA/QC Officer to join our Sydney team and play a key role in delivering quality across major marine and defence projects. In this role, you’ll ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory and client requirements while overseeing quality across fabrication, structural, mechanical and marine works. Working closely with project teams, clients and stakeholders, you will help deliver safe, efficient and high-quality project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct QA/QC inspections on marine fabrication, welding, steel structures, piping, mechanical and coating works.
- Review and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality procedures and project specifications.
- Verify incoming materials and ensure traceability requirements are maintained.
- Perform visual inspections and dimensional checks against approved drawings and standards.
- Prepare inspection reports, quality records, NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and quality documentation.
- Monitor corrective and preventive actions to ensure effective resolution of quality issues.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, classification societies and project teams on quality-related matters.
- Participate in audits and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and project quality requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a strong quality culture across operations.
About You:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a QA/QC role within marine, shipbuilding, defence, offshore, fabrication or heavy industry environments.
- Certificate III Trade Qualification, Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Fabrication, Mechanical or a related discipline.
- CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of welding, fabrication, coatings and inspection processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience managing inspection records and quality documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
Desirable Qualifications:
- NACE or AMPP Coating Inspector certification.
- Lead or Internal Auditor (ISO 9001) qualification.
- Experience working with Defence projects and Classification Society requirements (DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, Bureau Veritas).
