Disability Support Workers – Complex & Community Supports

You probably already know this job is harder than people think. That’s kind of why we’re looking for you.

We’re not going to tell you this role is “rewarding” and call it a pitch. You already know support work can be rewarding. You also know it can be unpredictable, emotionally demanding, and genuinely challenging — especially when supporting people with complex needs.

That’s the work we do.

At Golden Heart Services, we support participants with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), psychosocial disabilities, mental health presentations, high-intensity daily living needs, and behaviours of concern that require consistency, patience, and genuine skill. We work across both in-home drop-in supports and community-based supports throughout Sydney.

We do the work properly, or we don’t do it at all.

WHAT THE ROLE ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

No two shifts are the same.

Some participants need support building routines and independence in everyday life. Others require emotional regulation support, community access assistance, behavioural support implementation, or high physical support care.

You may be supporting participants with:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Psychosocial disabilities and complex mental health
  • Intellectual disabilities
  • Trauma-related presentations
  • High-intensity support needs
  • Behaviour support plans

Some participants will take time to build trust. Some may communicate differently. Some shifts will be calm and routine-based, others may require patience, adaptability, and confidence under pressure.

We’ll support and prepare you for that.

YOU’LL PROBABLY BE A GOOD FIT IF…

  • You genuinely enjoy working with people and building trust
  • You stay calm when situations escalate
  • You’re reliable and consistent
  • You ask questions and want to keep learning
  • You’re not looking for “easy shifts”
  • You understand that good support work is relationship-based
  • You want to work somewhere that values quality support over simply filling shifts

Experience in disability, mental health, aged care, youth work, behavioural support, or community services is highly regarded — but attitude matters just as much as experience.

EXPERIENCE WE VALUE

  • Autism and neurodiverse support
  • Behaviour support implementation
  • Psychosocial and mental health support
  • High-intensity daily living supports
  • Manual handling and personal care
  • Community participation supports
  • Emotional regulation and de-escalation
  • Medication assistance
  • Seizure or epilepsy management

Don’t tick every box? Apply anyway.

If you’re genuinely willing to learn, emotionally intelligent, and committed to providing quality support, we’d rather invest in the right person than hire someone who’s just chasing hours.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Current First Aid & CPR
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Working With Children Check
  • Valid Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle
  • Smartphone and basic digital skills for shift notes and communication

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Casual and part-time opportunities
  • Immediate starts available
  • Flexible shifts across Sydney
  • Proper onboarding and buddy shifts
  • Ongoing support and training
  • A responsive management team that actually answers the phone
  • Opportunities to grow into more complex support work over time

We don’t just place staff into gaps. We try to match workers with participants and environments where they’ll genuinely succeed.

If you stay with us, you’ll grow.
