Description
Finsbury Green is looking for a Junior Systems Administrator to join our Technology Services team at our Port Melbourne site.
This is a hands-on role for someone early in their IT career who has developed good technical fundamentals and wants to move beyond basic helpdesk support into broader systems and infrastructure administration.
You’ll work with an experienced internal technology team and gain exposure to servers, networks, Microsoft cloud services, cybersecurity, telephony, physical security systems and business-critical infrastructure across multiple Australian sites.
We don’t expect you to already know every technology we use. We’re looking for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, approaches problems methodically and wants to develop into a capable all-round Systems Administrator.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll assist with the operation and improvement of our technology environment, including:
- Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID and Microsoft 365 administration
- User accounts, permissions, devices and access management
- Windows endpoints and general technical support
- Server, storage, virtualisation, backup and monitoring systems
- Network switching, Wi-Fi, firewalls, VPNs and site connectivity
- Zoom Phone, meeting rooms and communications systems
- CCTV, cameras, access control and other physical security technology
- Cybersecurity controls including MFA, endpoint security, patching and access control
- Troubleshooting problems across endpoints, applications, servers and networks
- Supporting new offices, warehouses and manufacturing sites
- Working with technology vendors and specialist contractors
- Maintaining technical documentation, asset records and network diagrams
- Supporting our ISO 27001 security program
- Using PowerShell and other tools to automate repetitive administration
- Participating in infrastructure upgrades and technology projects
As your experience grows, you’ll have opportunities to take greater ownership of systems and projects.
What we’re looking for
This role would suit someone with approximately 1–3 years of commercial IT experience, although we’re more interested in capability and attitude than an exact number of years.
You’ll ideally have practical experience with some of the following:
- Windows 10/11
- Microsoft 365
- Active Directory or Entra ID
- Basic Windows Server administration
- TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP
- Wi-Fi and network troubleshooting
- User and device administration
- Basic PowerShell or scripting
- IT security fundamentals
Experience with VMware, Fortinet, backup systems, CCTV, access control or Zoom is useful but not required.
The kind of person we’re looking for
Technical knowledge matters, but how you approach problems matters just as much.
You’ll do well in this role if you:
- naturally investigate how and why something has failed
- are willing to try to solve a problem before escalating it
- know when you need help and aren’t afraid to ask
- can follow a problem across several systems rather than treating each component in isolation
- communicate clearly with technical and non-technical people
- document what you’ve done
- are careful when making changes to production systems
- enjoy learning unfamiliar technologies
- prefer understanding a system rather than simply following a checklist
You don’t need to know everything. You do need to want to work things out.
Our environment
You’ll gain experience across a broad technology environment including:
- Windows Server and Active Directory
- Microsoft 365 and Entra ID
- VMware virtualisation
- Enterprise server and storage infrastructure
- Fortinet networking and security
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Multi-site networking, VPNs, switching and Wi-Fi
- Zoom Phone and meeting-room technology
- CCTV and physical security systems
- Cloud and on-premises infrastructure
- Manufacturing and warehouse technology
- Internally developed business applications
- Cybersecurity and ISO 27001
About the team
Technology Services is a small internal team, which means you won’t be confined to one narrow area of IT.
You’ll work primarily from our Port Melbourne site, while supporting technology across our Australian operations.
You’ll work alongside experienced infrastructure and software people who can help when you encounter something outside your current experience. At the same time, we’ll expect you to become increasingly capable of investigating and resolving problems yourself.
This is a good opportunity for someone who has built a foundation in IT support and now wants to develop into a well-rounded Systems Administrator.
