About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced Disability Support Worker to provide 1:1 support to a participant with complex medical and behavioural needs. You will play a vital role in enhancing their quality of life, promoting autonomy, maintaining safety, and providing respectful and dignified care.

Supporting a Participant With:

• FND seizures & drop attacks

• Anarthria episodes

• “Catatonic” exhaustion periods

• Dissociative episodes

• CPTSD triggers

Behavioural Presentation May Include:

• Physical aggression

• Verbal aggression

• Periods of no behavioural issues

Your Responsibilities:

• Personal Care & Medication Support — including personal hygiene, continence care, and medication administration using positive reinforcement

• Mealtime Care — prepare meals and supervise safely according to dietary needs

• Emotional & Compassionate Support — provide calm and grounded reassurance

• Independence Building — encourage engagement and autonomy where appropriate

• Monitoring & Reporting — accurately document observations and wellbeing changes

Shift Availability:

• 6:00am – 2:00pm

• 2:00pm – 10:00pm

• 2:00pm – 6:00am (Sleepover shift)

Note: Active night shift applies for the first three months only.

About You

You are someone who embodies empathy, patience, and professionalism. You are able to remain composed during behavioural challenges and provide consistent, trauma-informed care.

You will need to demonstrate:

• Experience with FND, Anarthria, Dissociative episodes, CPTSD triggers

• Experience working with Schizoaffective Disorder, manic type

• The ability to de-escalate and respond supportively during behavioural incidents

• Strong emotional resilience and situational awareness

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• A safety-focused approach, including supervision of smoking risks

Essential Requirements

• Cert III or IV in Disability, Aged Care, Community Services, or equivalent

• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check & Employee Working With Children Check

• Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)

• A valid Australian driver’s licence and reliable, fully insured vehicle

• Current First Aid & CPR Certification

• Experience supporting clients with complex needs and high-risk behaviours

Highly Regarded:

• Experience with Huntington’s Disease

• Experience managing high falls risk

• Experience with incontinence support
