Do you love numbers and bringing order to a busy team? Join our team at Super Consumers Australia (SCA). Super Consumers Australia is a not-for-profit, small, high-impact organisation fighting for a fairer super system for people on low and middle incomes. We’re strong on research, policy and advocacy. We are looking for someone who loves planning, tracking and delivering, providing structure to our finances and team to help us deliver and move from working intuitively to working with more structure and clear priorities. You will have real autonomy to propose better ways of working and make it stick.

What you’ll do

  • Own SCA’s finances – You’ll run the monthly finance cycle, budgeting and forecasting, Board and leadership reporting, funder acquittals and the year-end audit. You’ll oversee our outsourced finance provider and bookkeeper, focusing on  analysis, planning and control rather than data entry.
  • Bring structure to how we work – You’ll lead our annual operational planning and run regular prioritisation reviews with the leadership team. You’ll also make Asana, which we’ve started using, our central view of projects and tasks.
  • Lead risk and governance – You’ll develop our risk register, which is already in place, and run risk reviews. You’ll keep our policies current, support the Company Secretary on Board operations, and manage insurance, incidents and privacy.
  • Run and improve our operations – You’ll look after procurement, contracts, and the HR and IT services we receive through our shared services arrangement with CHOICE. You’ll identify and deliver improvements as well-run projects.

About you

  • You have strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting skills, and experience running or substantially supporting the finance function of a small organisation.
  • You have a planning and project management mindset. You can see the whole picture, help others prioritise, and keep multiple workstreams on track.
  • You’ve introduced or improved systems and processes, and you’ve got people to actually use them.
  • You influence without authority. You can bring colleagues along with change, hold people to agreed processes constructively, and explain financial and risk information clearly to non-specialists and the Board.
  • You have experience with governance, risk and compliance, ideally in a not-for-profit, and with coordinating an external audit.
  • You’re proficient with Xero and spreadsheets, and comfortable with tools like Asana.
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, business or a related field are expected; a CA or CPA qualification is desirable.

Why join Super Consumers Australia

You’ll do meaningful work for Australian consumers, have real influence over how a small organisation runs, and get flexible part-time hours. Through our shared services arrangement with CHOICE, you’ll also receive generous leave and parental leave entitlements, an Employee Assistance Program, in-house wellbeing initiatives, make pre-tax super contributions , novated leasing and discounts on membership and CHOICE tested products.
