We are seeking an experienced and practical Human Resources/WHS Advisor to provide contemporary HR and workplace health and safety advice and support across Belong Blue Mountains.

About the Role

Working collaboratively with the Operations Management Committee, Team Leads, employees and our External HR Partner, you will provide practical operational HR and WHS support across the employee lifecycle and help managers apply consistent, effective and compliant people practices.

This is a broad, hands-on generalist role covering recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, performance and capability, culture and engagement, HR systems and reporting, employment compliance and workplace health and safety.

As a Human Resources/WHS Advisor within a purpose-driven community organisation, you will play an important role in supporting Belong Blue Mountains’ mission, values and community impact by helping to build a capable, engaged, safe and values-aligned workforce.

Key Responsibilities

As Human Resources/WHS Advisor you will:

  • Provide timely, practical and consistent HR advice and coaching to managers across people management, employment compliance and workforce matters.
  • Coordinate fair and consistent recruitment, onboarding and probation processes.
  • Support employee relations, performance, conduct, grievances and workplace matters, escalating complex or high-risk matters as appropriate.
  • Interpret and apply employment legislation, modern awards, employment conditions and organisational policies in day-to-day HR advice.
  • Coordinate learning, development, engagement, culture and organisational capability initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate HR systems, employee records, workforce reporting and employment documentation.
  • Support remuneration, policy, compliance, governance and continuous improvement activities.
  • Provide general WHS guidance and support incident management, psychosocial safety, workers compensation, injury management and return-to-work processes.
  • Identify workforce risks, trends and emerging issues and communicate or escalate these to the appropriate stakeholder.
  • Contribute to a respectful, inclusive and values-aligned workplace and demonstrate Belong Blue Mountains’ values in day-to-day interactions and advice.

About You

You are an experienced HR generalist who enjoys providing practical advice, building trusted relationships and working across a broad range of people and workplace matters.

You will communicate clearly, exercise sound professional judgement and discretion, manage competing priorities and recognise when a matter requires escalation or specialist support.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Relevant qualifications in human resources, industrial relations, business or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in an HR Advisor, HR Generalist or comparable role providing practical operational HR advice and support across the employee lifecycle.
  • Sound working knowledge of employment legislation, workplace relations, modern awards and contemporary HR practices.
  • General working knowledge of workplace health and safety, psychosocial safety, workers compensation, injury management and return-to-work requirements.
  • Strong communication, advisory and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical and balanced advice to managers and employees.
  • Sound professional judgement, integrity and discretion, with the ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and appropriately escalate complex or high-risk matters.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and to supporting a respectful, inclusive and values-aligned workplace culture.
  • Experience working within community services, aged care, disability, not-for-profit or another regulated service-delivery environment is desirable.
  • Experience supporting workplace investigations, organisational change, complex employee relations and/or WHS matters is desirable.
