Description

About Us

Aube is an integrated design, interior design, and construction practice specialising in commercial, fit-out, and high-end residential projects. We deliver projects from concept to completion, covering every stage, from feasibility, design, and planning through to turnkey construction.

Our unique model empowers our architects and designers to lead the process from initial concept through to delivery, ensuring creativity and buildability are always aligned. We believe the best outcomes emerge from the synergy between design vision and construction expertise, delivering projects that balance architectural ambition with construction excellence.

Founded by forward-thinking co-founders, Aube has grown into a thriving workplace where talented specialists can flourish. Our culture is grounded in collaboration, authenticity, innovation, and growth. By prioritising the wellbeing and strengths of our highly experienced team, we create an environment that sustains high-quality outcomes and experiences for our valued clients.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Interior Designer with strong design intuition and the confidence to lead — someone who is motivated by translating an early client brief into a clear and considered design direction, and carrying that vision through to a delivered space.

Working across commercial, fit-out, and high-end residential projects, you will lead the interior design process from concept through documentation and delivery. Because design and construction sit within a single practice at Aube, your work is never handed across a divide. You will coordinate directly with our architects on spatial and technical resolution, engage with the preconstruction and construction teams while key decisions remain open, and see your detailing resolved on site.

Reporting to the Design Manager, this position offers genuine ownership of our interiors offering, the opportunity to build enduring client relationships, and a meaningful role in developing our junior design talent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead concept design for interiors, including return briefs and spatial narratives, integrating cultural, site-specific, and environmental considerations into early-stage ideas
  • Interpret early client briefing into a clear and considered look and feel, and articulate the design vision to clients and the project team throughout delivery
  • Coordinate directly with our architects on spatial planning and technical detailing, ensuring interior and architectural elements are fully integrated
  • Manage the development of coordinated interior documentation packages that are technically sound, code-compliant, and construction-ready
  • Facilitate design workshops and documentation coordination with the preconstruction and construction teams, ensuring solutions are feasible, cost-aligned, and buildable within our D&C delivery model
  • Manage client communication and consultant coordination on interior matters, building strong rapport and clearly representing design intent
  • Direct curation and material selections across projects, balancing design intent, brand, budget, and buildability, and maintain a current and well-organised material library
  • Ensure interior documentation meets NCC, Australian Standards, and regulatory requirements, supporting certification and approval processes
  • Monitor site fit-out progress, participate in defect walk-throughs, and respond to RFIs relating to finishes, joinery, and interior detailing
  • Prepare design strategies and client-facing documentation for fee proposals, bid submissions, and early-stage feasibility assessments
  • Apply sustainable design principles and coordinate with consultants on carbon and environmental outcomes for interior elements
  • Mentor junior designers, contribute to design reviews, and support internal learning initiatives

Skills & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related design discipline
  • 7–10 years’ post-graduate experience in interior design across commercial, fit-out, and/or high-end residential projects, with a demonstrated ability to lead the design process and represent it confidently to clients
  • Proven capability to take ownership of projects from concept through to documentation within a multidisciplinary team
  • Sound understanding of construction methodologies, detailing, and D&C project delivery
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office; SketchUp and Enscape experience desirable
  • Working knowledge of the NCC/BCA, Australian Standards, and regulatory compliance as they relate to interiors
  • Experience as an Interior Designer within an architectural practice, with genuine exposure to architectural coordination, is highly regarded
  • Demonstrated confidence in material curation and selection, with a considered eye for detail
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and client liaison skills, with the confidence to lead client-facing meetings and design discussions
  • Strong time management, organisation, and coordination abilities across concurrent projects
  • A collaborative mindset and a commitment to contributing to a high-performing, people-first culture
