We are seeking a dedicated and relational Educational Assistant to work one‑to‑one with a neurodivergent student, supporting a personalised learning pathway designed to facilitate a successful transition from secondary school into employment.
The Role
This is a support role, focused on implementing a personalised plan using
a neurodiversity‑affirming approach. The position supports a two‑year programme that blends:
- NCEA Level 2 Unit Standards
- Life skills and personal development
- Supported work experience in primary and early childhood education settings
The Educational Assistant will play a key role in helping the student develop the skills, confidence, independence, and real‑world capability required for a successful transition into the workforce.
The role works closely with the Pathways Coordinator, teaching staff, and external providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement a learning plan that integrates learning, life skills, work experience, and wellbeing.
- Support the student to achieve NCEA Unit Standards, adapting learning tasks and assessment pathways to maximise success.
- Coordinate and support work experience placements aligned with the student’s career pathway in education.
- Foster independence, confidence, social skills, communication, and self‑management.
- Maintain accurate records of unit standard progress, evidence, and assessments.
- Act as the student’s advocate, ensuring cohesive communication between school staff, external providers, and family.
- Proactively liaise with external providers to ensure delivery timelines are met.
- Leverage technology and digital tools to enhance engagement and learning.
- Contribute positively to Woodford House’s supportive and values‑driven environment.
About You
You will bring warmth, creativity, and initiative, with a strong commitment to student‑centred support. Ideally, you will have:
- The ability to build respectful, trusting relationships with neurodivergent young people
- Experience with NZQA Unit Standards or vocational unit standards
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with attention to detail
- Confidence working independently and solving problems proactively
- Clear, professional communication skills
- Confidence using digital tools and school systems
- A commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and continuous improvement
Experience supporting young people in educational, pastoral, or transition‑to‑work contexts will be an advantage.
