Stable Hand – Entry Level (Pathway to Stud Groom)

Matamata, Waikato

Westbury Stud offers the opportunity to start your career as a Stable Hand in world-class Thoroughbred breeding facilities, working alongside a supportive and motivated team dedicated to producing elite racehorses raised to the highest standards of care.

This role provides an excellent entry point into the Thoroughbred industry, with opportunities to develop your skills and progress into Stud Groom positions over time.

We are seeking reliable and hardworking individuals with a strong work ethic, practical mindset, and genuine interest in working around horses.

Our structured 10 days on / 4 days off roster provides consistency and a great work-life balance year-round.

About the Role

This is a practical, hands-on role supporting the daily care of horses and upkeep of the farm environment. You will be working as part of a team, following established routines and guidance from experienced Team Leaders.

Duties include:

  • Mucking out stables and maintaining clean barns and yards
  • Preparing feeds and assisting with feeding routines
  • Filling hay racks, cleaning water troughs, and maintaining paddocks
  • Supporting general stable organisation and presentation
  • Assisting with basic horse care duties as experience develops
  • Helping with general farm and facility upkeep
  • Reporting maintenance issues such as fencing or trough damage
  • Following Health & Safety procedures at all times
  • Assisting the team with general daily tasks as required

This is a physically active role working outdoors in all weather conditions.
