About Us
At Te Whakaruruhau, we are committed to strengthening the safety, wellbeing, and mana of wāhine, tamariki, and whānau through culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and accountability-focused practice. Our principles and values are Manaakitanga (care and compassion), Whanaungatanga (connectedness and relationships), Kaitiakitanga (guardianship), Kotahitanga (unity) and Tikanga (cultural integrity) through walking together with Aroha.
Our Tāne Ora Kaupapa supports tāne on a journey of reflection, healing, responsibility, and positive transformation. Grounded in Kaupapa Māori, we support tāne to examine the foundations they stand upon, the impact of their behaviours, and the kind of whare they are building for themselves, their whānau, and future generations.
We are currently seeking passionate and culturally capable people to join our growing Tāne Ora team across two roles:
- Tāne Ora Kaimahi – Facilitator
- Tāne Ora Kaimahi
About the Roles
Tāne Ora Kaimahi – Facilitator
The Facilitator role combines one-on-one advocacy with group programme facilitation. This role walks alongside tāne through structured learning, reflection, accountability, and behaviour change processes.
You will:
- Facilitate group programmes for tāne
- Support tāne to strengthen emotional regulation, communication, and self-awareness
- Hold courageous and respectful conversations that challenge harmful behaviours and beliefs
- Build trusting, non-collusive relationships while prioritising the safety of wāhine and tamariki
- Contribute to the ongoing growth and strengthening of the kaupapa and programme delivery
In addition to facilitation responsibilities, the successful applicant will also work collaboratively within the wider Women’s Refuge team as a Tāne Ora Kaimahi, providing advocacy, crisis support, community engagement, and holistic support to tāne, wāhine, tamariki, and whānau when required.
Tāne Ora Kaimahi
The Kaimahi role provides advocacy, practical support, crisis response, and collaborative community engagement with tāne, whānau, and partner agencies.
This role includes:
- Working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies
- Supporting safety planning and ongoing support pathways
- Assisting with crisis interventions and community-based support
- Providing culturally safe and mana-enhancing engagement
- Maintaining accurate documentation, risk assessment, and case management practices
- Supporting programme reflection, development, and evaluation
As a male advocate, the role may also involve supporting wāhine and whānau in crisis settings alongside colleagues, always guided by organisational values and a commitment to the dignity, autonomy, and safety of wāhine and tamariki.
Working at Te Whakaruruhau
All Tāne Ora roles sit within the wider Refuge service and contribute to advocacy, crisis response, and support for wāhine, tamariki, and whānau.
This is frontline, time-sensitive mahi that can involve working alongside whānau in crisis and requires flexibility, sound judgement, and follow-through.
The role may include rostered hours, after-hours work, and occasional on-call responsibilities.
