Summary:

As the Group Business Partner for People and Capability within the Building and Construction industry, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the workforce strategy and enhancing organisational effectiveness. Based in Henderson, Auckland, this permanent full-time position requires a mid-senior level professional who can drive people initiatives aligned with business objectives, ensuring a high-performance culture and fostering employee engagement across the organisation.

Responsibilities:

Business Partnering

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, aligning people strategies with business priorities, workforce plans, operational goals and commercial realities.

Employment Relations

  • Provide expert guidance on employment relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary processes, performance management, personal grievances, disputes and complex case management.

Change Management

  • Partner with leaders to plan and deliver change initiatives, including restructures, role redesign, consultation processes, operating model changes and culture programmes.

Recruitment, Job Design and Selection

  • Lead practical end-to-end recruitment and job design activity, including role scoping, job descriptions, attraction planning, advertising, sourcing, screening, shortlisting, interviewing and selection.

Operational HR Delivery

  • Oversee core HR services including onboarding, performance, remuneration, learning and development, employment documentation, policy application and offboarding. Digital HR, AI and Workflow Integration
  • Use HRIS platforms, digital workflows, large language models and AI-enabled tools to improve the quality, speed and consistency of HR processes and documentation.
  • Support responsible AI use across people processes, ensuring privacy, confidentiality, bias awareness, human judgement and employment law compliance are maintained.

Leadership Development and Capability Building

  • Support leadership development, succession planning and capability-building initiatives aligned to the People and Capability roadmap.

Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or contribute to strategic projects that improve people systems, culture, capability, employment practices and workforce performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR service delivery, processes, documentation and workflow efficiency using data, feedback and operational insight.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior HR role, preferably within the Building and Construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of employment law and HR best practices in New Zealand.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement HR strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in using HR metrics to drive decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and manage complex HR projects.
