The Plant People is a leader in the landscape sector in New Zealand and is continuing to grow across Canterbury. We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand Landscaper to join our Canterbury team and play a key role in delivering high quality commercial landscaping projects.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced landscaper who enjoys leading teams, coordinating site activities, and delivering outstanding results across a variety of landscape construction and planting projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise landscaping staff on site
- Coordinate daily activities and ensure projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard
- Allocate tasks and monitor staff performance on site
- Coordinate labour, materials, and equipment to meet project timelines
- Assist with scheduling and workflow planning
- Report project progress and site issues to management
- Carry out landscape construction, planting, and garden establishment works
- Undertake ground preparation, planting, mulching, and general landscaping duties
- Read and interpret landscape plans and specifications
- Organise materials, equipment, and labour on site
- Train and support junior team members
- Ensure health and safety requirements are followed at all times
- Liaise with Site Supervisors, clients, and team members as required
- Perform general site preparation, maintenance, and other duties associated with commercial landscaping projects.
We are looking for someone with
- A minimum of two years’ landscaping experience and a Level 7 or higher qualification in Management, Business Management, Project Management, or a related field.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic
- The ability to work both independently and within a team environment
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
What we offer
- Competitive hourly rate of $30 – $35 per hour, depending on experience
