Expression of Interest: Ngāti Kuia Emerging Director Programme

He ara whakatupu rangatira – Growing the next generation of Ngāti Kuia governance leaders.

Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Kuia is seeking expressions of interest from uri who are ready to step into a structured, high‑support governance development pathway. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience across our governance entities while upholding the mana, integrity, and responsibilities of each board and kōmiti.

About the Programme

Three Emerging Directors (EDs) will be appointed for a three‑year development journey. Each ED will:

  • Serve on one governance body per year, rotating annually across:
  1. Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Kuia (TRONK)
  2. Te Hoiere Asset Holding Company (THAHC)
  3. Risk and Audit Kōmiti
  • Attend quarterly hui of their assigned board or kōmiti
  • Participate in monthly Tumu Toihau Update Hui
  • Receive remuneration of $50/hour for approved hui and preparation

This programme provides structured exposure to governance practice, succession development, and real‑world leadership experience across the Ngāti Kuia group.

Who We’re Looking For

We invite applications from uri who:

  • Have completed a Level 4 Māori Governance course, or
  • Have expressed a clear interest in developing governance capability; and
  • Demonstrate integrity, curiosity, commitment to kaupapa, and alignment with Ngāti Kuia tikanga and values.

Important Governance & Legal Settings

To ensure clarity, safety, and confidence for applicants and boards:

All ED roles are non‑statutory, with:

  • No voting rights
  • No authority to bind the entity
  • Participation for governance development and observation
  • Clear boundaries to support learning while maintaining the integrity of decision‑making

Schedules outlining the full legal and role conditions will be provided with the EOI pack.

Become an Emerging Director

If you’re committed to strengthening the future of Ngāti Kuia governance, we encourage you to step forward.

Expression of Interest close Friday 15 May 2026.
