About the role

The Pou Hononga walks alongside tangata and whānau on their journey of reconnection, strengthening their ties to whānau, hapū, iwi, and tūrangawaewae. Through culturally grounded support, the role nurtures identity, belonging, and pride, helping tangata reconnect with the strength of their whakapapa and the richness of te Ao Māori.

By weaving Te Reo, tikanga, and cultural aspirations into reintegration planning and daily practice, the Pou Hononga empowers tangata and whānau to draw on their cultural heritage as a foundation for healing, growth, and lasting positive change.

Requirements

  • Relevant Level 4 qualification (or higher)
  • High level of fluency in Te Reo Māori me ona tikanga Māori
  • Strong competency in Mātauranga Māori
  • Experience working with tangata, whānau, iwi, and community networks.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organisational skills.
  • Full New Zealand driver licence
  • A passion for strengthening cultural identity, connection, and wellbeing is essential.

Desirable

  • Fluency in Te Reo Māori or willingness to learn
  • Fluency in a Pasifika language and culture
