Job Title

Construction Labourer

Purpose

To support daily site operations by maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work environment. Assist tradespeople, handle materials, and perform essential manual tasks to ensure projects run safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Site Operations & Manual Labour

  • Prepare sites for daily work by clearing debris, setting up temporary fencing, and ensuring the site is ready for subcontractors.
  • Load, unload, and safely distribute construction materials, tools, and deliveries around the site.
  • Perform heavy manual labour, including digging trenches, moving earth, and conducting general site clean-up.
  • Assist carpenters, machine operators, and site managers with day-to-day tasks and instructions.

Site Security & Housekeeping

  • Keep the site tidy; store materials in designated areas.
  • Assist in locking and securing the site and properties daily.
  • Ensure waste and debris are properly disposed of and help arrange skip bin deliveries/removals as needed.
  • Unlock site offices, toilets, lunchrooms, meeting rooms and houses each morning, and lock them again each night.
  • Install protective coverings to floorings, benchtops and other items as instructed by the Site Manager,

Health & Safety

  • Attend toolbox meetings and actively participate in site health and safety discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Identify potential hazards and immediately report incidents or risks to the Site Manager.
  • Supervise and coordinate safe work practices for your own tasks and assist others in doing the same.

General Duties & Responsibilities

Skills, Experience & Education

  • Physically fit, comfortable with heavy lifting, and capable of working on your feet in various weather conditions.
  • Prior experience on a construction site is highly advantageous.
  • Competent to use power tools and hand tools.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of workmanship, a positive attitude, and effective task execution.
  • Full Class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence.
