At SYOS Aerospace, we’re building the next generation of autonomous systems across air, land and sea. We’re looking for a GNC Team Lead to lead a team of around nine GNC and GNC Integration Engineers, helping to grow and advance our autonomous capability.

Note this role is based in Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, this role offers relocation support for the right candidate.

This is a people leadership role with strong technical depth, focused on developing engineers, driving delivery and providing technical direction across multiple programmes. You’ll play a key role in shaping our GNC capability as we continue to develop and deploy autonomous systems.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of GNC Engineers.
  • Set goals, manage performance and build a high-performing team culture.
  • Plan workload and priorities across multiple programmes.
  • Provide technical guidance across GNC development, integration and testing.
  • Support complex problem-solving and engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate with Software, Systems, Electronics, Mechatronics and Flight Test teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement across GNC processes and ways of working.

What we’re looking for

  • Engineering degree in Aerospace, Robotics, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Proven engineering team leadership experience.
  • Strong GNC knowledge, including control theory, state estimation and sensor fusion.
  • Experience with GNC development or integration on UAV, UGV or USV platforms.
  • MATLAB/Simulink, embedded systems and HIL experience.
  • Understanding of GNSS/GPS, IMUs and navigation/perception sensors.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder skills.

Nice to have

  • C++ and/or Python.
  • PX4, ArduPilot or ROS/ROS2.
  • Autonomous vehicle field testing.
  • Aerospace, robotics, defence or maritime experience.
