Sous Chef – Join the Edizi Kitchen Team

Edizi | Christchurch CBD Permanent Full-Time | $30–$33 per hour

Start Date: Late September 2026

Ready to take your next step in the kitchen?

We’re looking for a passionate and driven Sous Chef to join the team at Edizi, one of Christchurch’s exciting new all-day dining destinations.

Located in the heart of Christchurch CBD, Edizi is a place where the day starts with great coffee and breakfast, flows into long lunches and shared plates, and finishes with dinner, cocktails and good times. Our food is seasonal, generous and made from scratch, with a focus on quality ingredients, fire cooking and creating food that people genuinely want to come back for.

And we’re looking for someone who wants to be part of making Edizi exceptional.

The Role

Working closely with our Head Chef, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen and the continued development of our food offering.

This is an exciting opportunity for a chef who is ready to step into a leadership role, take ownership and have a genuine influence on the success of the kitchen.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Head Chef in leading and developing the kitchen team
  • Taking charge of the kitchen and confidently leading the team on the Head Chef’s days off
  • Maintaining consistently high standards of food quality, presentation and preparation
  • Helping to create a positive, professional and high-performing kitchen culture
  • Working closely with the Head Chef on menus, specials, food preparation and kitchen operations
  • Ensuring food safety, hygiene and kitchen standards are maintained at all times
  • Training and mentoring junior chefs and kitchen team members
  • Helping to manage kitchen organisation, stock and day-to-day operations
  • Leading by example and remaining calm, organised and hands-on during busy service

About You

We’re looking for someone who is more than just a good chef — we want a great team player and future leader.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ professional kitchen/chef experience
  • Previous experience in a senior chef or leadership capacity, or a strong desire to take that next step
  • A Level 4 Cookery qualification or higher (advantageous)
  • Excellent knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and kitchen operations
  • A strong understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
  • The ability to lead a team confidently and positively
  • A genuine passion for food and delivering high standards
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to stay composed and solutions-focused during busy service
  • A strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude

Most importantly, you’ll want to make a difference. We’re looking for someone who will work closely with our Head Chef, bring ideas to the table and take pride in making Edizi the very best it can be.

What We Offer

  • $30–$33 per hour, depending on experience and skill level
  • Permanent full-time employment
  • The opportunity to work in a dynamic, modern Christchurch CBD venue
  • A genuine leadership opportunity with scope to grow
  • The chance to work closely with an experienced Head Chef
  • A supportive team environment where your ideas and contribution will be valued
  • The opportunity to be part of the continued growth and development of an exciting new restaurant
