As our Youth Housing Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role helping rangatahi transitioning from Oranga Tamariki care into supported accommodation, working alongside them with empathy while coordinating the practical aspects that keep homes safe, welcoming and sustainable.

Mō Te Tūranga | About The role
The Ngā Maihi Youth Supported Accommodation Service is a partnership between Stepping Stone Trust, Purapura Whetu Trust and Odyssey House Christchurch. Together, we support rangatahi as they move towards greater independence by providing safe, stable housing and practical support.
As Youth Housing Coordinator, you’ll oversee housing and tenancy coordination across a portfolio of private rental properties throughout Christchurch. You’ll build strong relationships with landlords, property managers and contractors while working alongside rangatahi to support positive housing experiences and successful transitions to independent living.
This is a varied role where no two days are the same—you might be organising a property inspection, arranging urgent maintenance, welcoming a young person into their new home, or working with the wider Ngā Maihi team to overcome tenancy challenges.
In this role, you will:
- Source suitable rental properties for rangatahi across Christchurch.
- Build positive relationships with landlords, property managers and contractors.
- Coordinate tenancy set-ups, inspections and property maintenance.
- Ensure homes are safe, compliant and well maintained.
- Work alongside rangatahi in a respectful, strengths-based and trauma-informed way.
- Support sustainable tenancies through proactive communication and problem solving.
- Maintain accurate tenancy, inspection and property documentation.
- Collaborate with our partner organisations to deliver coordinated support.

You’ll be someone who can confidently balance people and property. You’re organised, calm under pressure and genuinely enjoy building relationships with people from all walks of life.
Most importantly, you’ll have the empathy, resilience and sound judgement to build positive relationships with rangatahi, while maintaining professional boundaries and helping create safe, stable environments where they can thrive.
Must Have:
- A Full New Zealand Driver Licence.
- Experience in tenancy coordination, housing support, property management or a similar role.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with landlords, contractors, colleagues and rangatahi.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and computer-based systems.
- A compassionate, strengths-based approach and the ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Professional resilience and the ability to remain calm and solution-focused in challenging situations.
- A commitment to culturally safe practice and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Desirable:
- A qualification in housing, property management, social services, community support or a related field.
- Knowledge of New Zealand tenancy legislation.
- Experience coordinating property maintenance and contractors.
- Experience working with young people, or within youth, social services, community housing or other support services.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
- Knowledge of the Christchurch housing market.
