Description

At Squirrel, our purpose is simple: to make finance fairer.

We challenge the way banks have always done things, and that same spirit runs through how we work. We’re proudly Kiwi, straight talking, and genuinely generous with our knowledge.

Our strengths are our people: deep property and lending expertise, an innovative mindset, and a commitment to treating every client as an individual. If you want to be part of a team that’s bringing a fresh approach to lending in New Zealand, you’ll fit right in.

We’re now looking for an experienced Credit Manager to join our Credit Team.

If you’re passionate about making sound lending decisions, balancing risk with commercial outcomes, and helping clients achieve their goals, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll assess residential mortgage applications and support the ongoing management of Squirrel’s lending portfolio, working closely with Advisers and key stakeholders across the business.

Your days will include:

  • Assessing residential mortgage applications and making lending recommendations
  • Analysing servicing, financial positions and security structures
  • Working with Advisers to progress applications and provide credit expertise
  • Identifying and managing portfolio risks and policy exceptions
  • Supporting arrears and hardship management activities
  • Contributing to lending policy and process improvements

About you

You’ll combine strong analytical skills with a practical, client-focused approach.

Ideally you’ll have:

  • 3+ years’ experience in mortgage lending, credit assessment, banking or financial services
  • Strong knowledge of residential lending, servicing assessments and risk management
  • Excellent analytical and credit decision-making skills
  • Understanding of responsible lending and regulatory obligations
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience managing arrears or hardship situations
  • A qualification in Finance, Commerce, Banking or a related discipline would be an advantage

Why Squirrel?

We’re not your typical financial services company. We’re ambitious, down-to-earth and genuinely enjoy what we do.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Modern Sale Street office in the heart of Auckland
  • Supportive team, regular social events and a great culture
  • Career development opportunities within a growing business
  • Work alongside highly experienced lending professionals
  • 4% employer KiwiSaver, annual incentive scheme, employee share scheme and other great benefits
  • Flexible working arrangements by agreement
  • A business that encourages innovation and challenging the status quo

Ready to apply?

If you’re looking for a role where you can influence lending outcomes, make commercially sound decisions, and be part of a business that’s changing the way finance works in New Zealand, we’d love to hear from you.
