Te tūranga | The role
This role is based in Tokoroa, South Waikato.
We are seeking an experienced practitioner to deliver Te Huringa O Te Ao, supporting tāne on a journey of healing to break cycles of harmful behaviour, strengthen whānau connections and create
lasting change for themselves and future generations.

Te Huringa O Te Ao is a transformative, whānau‑centred therapeutic approach that supports tāne
who have caused harm to understand the drivers of their behaviour, strengthen whānau relationships, and restore balance. This mahi is grounded in kaupapa Māori approaches and integrates cultural and clinical practices to achieve meaningful, long‑term change.
A challenging and rewarding opportunity, this role is suited to someone confident in working with tāne, skilled in therapeutic practice and enables transformation through group facilitation and one-on-one intervention.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver interventions, facilitating kaupapa Māori wānanga and group sessions and intensive 1-on-1 therapeutic support.
- Include and engage whānau in safe, mana‑enhancing and trauma‑informed ways
- Support tāne to challenge and take accountability of past behaviours build insight and develop non‑violent ways of relating
- Complete holistic assessments and develop individual and whānau plans
- Embed tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori values into practice
- Maintain accurate case notes, reporting and outcome data
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
Pūkenga | What You’ll Bring
- Experience working with tāne, and whānau, impacted by violence, in therapeutic or behaviour‑change programmes.
- Experience facilitating groups, wānanga, programmes or therapeutic interventions.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and behaviour change models.
- Experience facilitating groups or wānanga.
- An understanding of Te Ao Māori and a commitment to kaupapa Māori practice.
- Te reo Māori and tikanga knowledge.
- Strong communication, relationship‑building and organisational skills.
- A qualification in social work, counselling, psychology, health or a related field is valued, however equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- Full NZ driver licence.
