Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for a role where your expertise genuinely matters?
About Us
NLC Payroll +MORE is a specialist payroll business with over 18 years of experience delivering managed payroll and consulting services across New Zealand and Australia. Our Wellington-based team works with a diverse range of clients, from household names through to mid-sized businesses navigating complex payroll challenges.
We are a humble, people-focused team driven by quality delivery and long-term relationships. If you are looking for a role where you can grow your payroll career within a supportive, expert team, we would love to hear from you.
The Opportunity
As a Payroll Advisor, you will manage end-to-end payroll processing across a portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and on-time payments every pay cycle. You will be the trusted payroll contact for your clients, an escalation point for complex queries, and an active contributor to process improvement across the team.
This role spans both New Zealand and Australian payroll obligations, so a sound understanding of payroll legislation across both jurisdictions is important.

backpays, and remuneration adjustments
- Monitor compliance obligations and proactively identify and mitigate legislative risks across both jurisdictions
- Build and maintain strong client relationships as a trusted payroll advisor
- Act as an escalation point for complex payroll queries and provide guidance to team members
- Liaise with external authorities such as the IRD and ATO as required
- Contribute to process improvement, internal reviews, and documentation to reduce errors and
strengthen controls
- Support month-end reporting, reconciliations, and ad hoc client requirements
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand and/or Australian payroll legislation
- High attention to detail and accuracy across data processing, reconciliations, and compliance
reporting
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to translate technical payroll matters
into practical client guidance
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines across a
portfolio of clients
- Proficiency with payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
Desirable:
- Experience with Datapay or PayGlobal (highly regarded)
- Experience in a managed payroll or outsourced services environment
- Exposure to payroll audits, compliance reviews, or remediation programmes
- Experience acting as a technical escalation point or mentoring junior team members
- Familiarity with process improvement and implementing stronger payroll controls
