We are looking for someone to join our team who is passionate about child health, equity and supporting whānau to access B4 School Checks in ways that work for them. This is a part-time position 24 hours per week (0.6 FTE)
This role provides a flexible mobile service for tamariki referred by general practice when additional approaches are needed to complete their check. It will suit a registered nurse who is confident working independently, adaptable across community settings, and skilled at building trust with whānau.
You’ll be supported by the B4 School Check Coordination Team to ensure checks are clinically safe, culturally responsive and accessible to the needs of tamariki and whānau across Waitaha Canterbury.

Te āhua o te mahi | What you will be doing
As a B4 School Check Mobile Nurse, you will complete checks in home and community settings for tamariki referred by general practice. You will arrange appointments with whānau, support informed consent, complete assessments safely and respectfully, and help identify the right next steps when health, development or wellbeing needs are identified.
- Providing clinically safe, culturally responsive checks in home and community settings.
- Building trust with whānau through clear, respectful and strengths-based communication.
- Working with the coordination team and practices to prioritise referrals and support completion where extra mobile capacity is needed.
- Helping improve coverage and equitable access for tamariki Māori, Pacific peoples and whānau experiencing barriers to services.
Ngā pūkenga motuhake | What you will bring
You will bring child health and/or community nursing experience, sound clinical judgement and confidence working independently. You’ll be skilled at engaging with whānau and service partners, with a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural safety, equity and whānau-centred practice.
- New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practising Certificate.
- Current B4 School Check nurse provider.
- Experience in child health, community nursing, primary care, Well Child Tamariki Ora, public health nursing or a related field.
- Ability to build effective relationships with whānau, practices, community providers and early learning services.
- Strong organisation, accurate documentation, sound clinical judgement, a full driver licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
