Description

PCL Contracting Ltd is a privately owned civil contracting business based in Pauatahanui, Porirua, specialising in roading, car parks, subdivisions, drainage, asphalt, excavation and siteworks.

We have worked hard over the last 10+ years to build our culture, we don’t always get it right, but we are happy to have those honest conversations, as better never stops. As a result, our people work hard, have a laugh along the way and get the job done.

We’re looking for an experienced Chipseal Supervisor to join our Surfacing team. Reporting to the Surfacing Contracts Manager, you’ll lead a crew on chip seal and surfacing projects across the Wellington region and lower North-Island, keeping operations running safely, on time, and to the high standard our clients expect.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll be at the heart of day-to-day site operations, working alongside your team to get the job done right.

We have a strong focus on getting the right fit within our team, as our people are the most important part of our business. We generally work Monday – Friday, however at times you may also be required to work varied days/hours.

As a part of this role you would be required to (but would not be limited to):

  • Leading and coordinating your crew on chip seal and surfacing operations, ensuring daily targets are met
  • Planning daily site activities in line with the weekly programme, minimising downtime and maximising productivity
  • Conducting pre-start meetings (toolboxes), identifying and communicating daily hazards, and maintaining a strong H&S culture on site
  • Ensuring all plant and equipment is operated safely and efficiently – and getting your hands dirty alongside the team
  • Overseeing QA compliance including spray sheets, milling dip records, and shift reports
  • Completing accurate daily documentation: timesheets, toolboxes, hazard boards, plant inspections, and QA records via our JMS and NZOHS systems
  • Managing sub-contractors on site, ensuring inductions, sign-ins, and H&S standards are met
  • Identifying and reporting non-conformances and working collaboratively to resolve them
  • Mentoring and training ground crew, providing ongoing constructive feedback
  • Reporting to management on project issues as required

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in chip seal and/or surfacing operations – you know the work and can lead it with confidence
  • A strong understanding of health and safety practices in a civil construction environment
  • Ability to plan, organise, and manage a team to deliver results
  • Solid communication skills – clear with your crew, professional with clients and the public
  • Comfortable completing documentation and using mobile apps/technology on site
  • Class 2 licence with WTR endorsement (Class 4 preferred)

Your ability to maintain up to date records daily from contract quality plans, pre-start meetings, toolboxes and daily reporting is essential. This is all completed using mobile technology, so a basic understanding and willingness to use apps and programs would be beneficial.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic and high-performance culture. Our company culture is our main focus at PCL. We have a close knit team that demonstrate our core values of C.R.A.S.H (Communication, Respect, Attitude, Support and Honesty), so your previous surfacing experience leading a team will show a strong work ethic that gets the best out of people and a desire to achieve.

The role will pay a competitive hourly rate, a company vehicle, iPad and phone will also be provided.

If you want to work for a company that offers great support to its employees and genuinely takes care of its people – then PCL may be the company for you!

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

Applicants must be a NZ Citizen or Resident.
