Description

PCL Contracting Ltd is a privately owned civil contracting business based in Pauatahanui, Porirua.

For over 10 years, we’ve built a reputation for quality work and a culture we’re genuinely proud of — where people work hard, support each other, and have a laugh along the way.

We’re looking for a qualified Certified Drainlayer to join our Masterton team. If you take pride in your trade, care about doing things right, and want to be part of a tight-knit crew that values its people — we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

This is a permanent, full-time position working primarily Monday to Friday, 7am–5pm, with occasional Saturdays or extended hours when the job demands it.

You’ll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of stormwater and wastewater systems across residential, commercial, and civil sites — ensuring every job meets project specifications, the NZ Building Code, and our health and safety standards.

Day-to-day, you’ll be:

  • Reading and interpreting site plans, drainage drawings, and specifications
  • Setting out pipe levels and gradients using lasers and other tools
  • Excavating trenches and laying PVC and concrete pipes to NZBC and council requirements
  • Connecting drainage systems to council mains or on-site disposal systems
  • Conducting pressure and water tests to confirm drainage integrity
  • Completing job documentation including as-built plans and inspection reports
  • Communicating clearly with builders, site supervisors, project managers, and contract managers
  • Operating machinery such as excavators and compactors safely and efficiently

What We’re Looking For

  • Current registration and a practicing licence with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB) — minimum 2 years’ post-registration experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of NZ drainage regulations and council consent processes
  • Knowledge of roading, footpath, kerb and channel works
  • Full NZ Driver’s Licence (Class 1 required, Class 2 preferred)
  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all conditions
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a crew
  • Drug free — pre-employment screening required

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay rate
  • Medical insurance
  • Profit share
  • Training and genuine progression opportunities
  • A great bunch of people to work alongside

At PCL, our culture is everything. We live by our core values — C.R.A.S.H: Communication, Respect, Attitude, Support, and Honesty — and we look for people who bring those values to work every day.

Applicants must be a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident.
