Description

This is a career opportunity to join the Pathlab team – one of New Zealand’s most advanced and respected pathology networks during a period of change and transformation. As Operations Manager, you will have a broad scope of operational functionals that encompass both enabling and core health services. You will be directly responsible to drive both day-to-day excellence and future-focused transformation across our organisation.

Within the operations function is facilities management, procurement, logistics and supply chain, risk and quality and assurance who alongside our core health services form our pre-analytics function.  Ensuring they operate efficiently, reliably, and in alignment with our strategic direction. You’ll be responsible for the people who lead these teams, and work collaboratively with peers across the business to support both clinical and corporate service outcomes.

A key part of this role is accountability for Health & Safety across Pathlab. You’ll be responsible for meeting the duties set out in the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, including ensuring robust systems are in place to manage and monitor risks, fostering a culture of care.

This is not a passive operational role. We’re looking for someone who brings a fresh lens to old problems, balances rigour with creativity, and can translate ideas into outcomes. You’ll be experienced at delivering operational requirements to achieve strategic outcomes, to think at scale, helping to shape our long-term strategy and the way we work across multiple sites.

What You’ll Bring

  • Senior experience in operations within a complex, regulated, and fast-paced environment (e.g. healthcare, diagnostics, manufacturing, infrastructure or supply chain).
  • Strong understanding of organisational Health & Safety responsibilities under New Zealand law, and the confidence to take the lead on cultural and procedural improvement.
  • Knowledge of how high-performing teams are developed through collaboration, people empowerment, stakeholder engagement, and ‘lived in’ change management experience.
  • Sound judgement and financial acumen, with experience overseeing procurement strategies, capital investment, and cost control.
  • A systems thinker, with the ability to identify interdependencies, streamline processes, and drive innovation without losing sight of our people or purpose.
  • Commitment to service quality and to supporting outcomes that matter to the communities we serve.
