About the Role
We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist/New Graduate (Microbiology) to join our friendly and supportive Pathlab Bay of Plenty team. This is a permanent, full-time position working on a 24/7 roster based in Tauranga.
In this role, you will practise as a registered Medical Laboratory Scientist, contributing to diagnostic laboratory services within the Microbiology department. You will work alongside experienced scientists, technicians, and clinical microbiologists, gaining exposure to a broad range of microbiology testing.
Our Microbiology department includes over 35 Clinical Microbiologists, Scientists, and Technicians, utilising a range of automated microbiology and manual techniques.
From our centralised Tauranga laboratory, we support the diagnostic testing needs of patients across the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and Lakes regions.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your microbiology expertise in a well-resourced, state of the art laboratory.
About You
You are a motivated and capable scientist with a genuine interest in Microbiology and a commitment to delivering high-quality laboratory services. You enjoy working as part of a team, take pride in your work, and are keen to continue developing both your technical and professional skills.
You will bring:
- A relevant qualification in Medical Laboratory Science
- Practical experience in a Medical Microbiology laboratory, or a strong interest in developing a career in Microbiology
- An understanding of laboratory quality systems and best practice, including IANZ requirements
- Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, with a current Annual Practising Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one)

You will participate in a 7-day roster, including day, evening, night and weekend shifts, so flexibility is essential.
