Te Mahi Tūranga | About the Role
Play a key role in supporting māmā, pēpi, and whānau in this permanent, full-time Lactation Consultant role based in Whakatāne. In this role you will provide expert breastfeeding guidance, support holistic whānau wellbeing, and help build breastfeeding support across the Eastern Bay of Plenty. You will also:
- Collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to workforce and community capacity building.
- Deliver training, mentoring, and education programs to strengthen breastfeeding knowledge and practice.
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold privacy, health, safety, and safeguarding standards.
- Apply kaupapa Māori principles in service delivery and participate in cultural development opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with whānau, health providers, and community partners to support breastfeeding and wellbeing initiatives.
Ōu Pūkenga | Your Strengths
As a Registered Lactation Consultant, Nurse or Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate you will bring:
- Strong case management skills, including assessment, planning, and review.
- Deep understanding of social and cultural factors affecting breastfeeding and whānau wellbeing.
- Experience collaborating effectively with whānau, communities, iwi, and health and social service providers.
- Excellent relationship-building, advocacy, and communication skills.
- Confidence in navigating complex situations, prioritising tasks, and working autonomously within their rohe.
- Cultural competence and ability to apply kaupapa Māori principles in practice.
- Commitment to continuous learning, workforce development, and contributing positively to community outcomes.
