Te Mahi Tūranga | About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Registered Midwife to join our Te Kahu Taurima team based in Whakatāne. In this new role, you will provide exceptional care for clients and their whānau within the Eastern Bay of Plenty region from pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period. You will work within a case-loading team of midwives to ensure continuity of care, while incorporating Kaupapa Māori health practices and upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Delivering antenatal, labour and birth, and postnatal care in accordance with NZ Primary Maternity Services standards.
- Sharing caseload responsibilities with the team to provide women and whānau with access to urgent and acute care 24/7.
- Conducting antenatal visits across Whakatāne and satellite clinics, in collaboration with Iwi alliances,
- Maintaining accurate records, supporting reporting, service monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Contributing to service quality initiatives and monitoring outcomes to ensure safe, effective care.
- Delivering care that is culturally responsive in line with our Te Pou Mataaho model of care and Turanga Kaupapa principles.
- Participating in wānanga and other development opportunities to maintain skills and professional competence.
Ōu Pūkenga | Your Strengths
You bring extensive experience working with whānau, along with knowledge of Iwi, Māori providers, government agencies, and community services.
In addition, you have:
- A current New Zealand midwifery APC
- Skills in case management, including assessment, planning, and review, with a solution-focused approach.
- An understanding of kaupapa Māori frameworks and the ability to embed tikanga Māori into service delivery.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, advocacy, and facilitation skills.
- Expertise in confidentiality and health and safety to protect clients, whānau, and staff.
- A full, clean driver’s licence.
