About the role 

Are you a relationship-driven librarian who enjoys being visible, proactive, and making impact? 

Join the New Zealand Law Society Library as a Customer Engagement Librarian and play a key role in strengthening how we connect with and support the legal profession across the South Island. 

The Customer Engagement Librarian role was created as part of our strategic focus on proactive engagement; this role builds on the success of an existing Customer Engagement Librarian and expands our national programme of outreach and training. 

Based in Christchurch, you will work closely with the National Law Librarian, Law Library Manager, the Wellington based Customer Engagement Librarian, and wider library staff to:  

  • Deliver a high-quality programme of library engagement, outreach, and training 
  • Promote our library services, resources, spaces, and collections to practicing lawyers 
  • Design and deliver engaging legal research training (in-person and online), including the use of AI and emerging tools 
  • Build strong relationships with lawyers, branches, sections and external stakeholders 
  • Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Canterbury Library, including customer enquiries and research support. 

 

Our ideal applicant will have: 

  • A professional library qualification 
  • 3+ years post qualification experience, preferably in a law or academic library 
  • Experience delivering database or research training to user groups 
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and presentation skills 
  • An interest in legal research innovation, including AI (expertise welcome but not essential) 
  • Experience promoting services or programmes to professional audiences 
  • Website or content management experience (advantageous) 
  • A law degree or experience in the legal sector (advantageous)
