Join a skilled team supporting the critical operations of our client based in Devonport, Auckland North Shore. We’re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Assistant to help maintain, inspect and repair a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment across our client’s facilities.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Assistant, you’ll work full-time (Mon–Fri, 7:00am–3:30pm) alongside experienced engineers and technicians. Your primary focus will be supporting the ongoing maintenance and compliance of mechanical systems in areas such as the Training Facility, Fuel Installation, boiler rooms and associated plant equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with scheduled inspections, testing and maintenance on mechanical plant and equipment including pumps, hydraulic systems, HVAC, fuel systems and water treatment facilities.
• Support repairs and troubleshooting on equipment such as fire training units, damage control units, diesel recovery systems and fuel reticulation infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate logs, update maintenance documentation and report on equipment performance, reliability and compliance.
• Identify mechanical faults and coordinate repairs with the team or subcontractors.
• Work to required regulatory and safety standards
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment, showing regard for human health and the environment.

About You

• Mechanical/engineering background with at least 2 years’ experience in New Zealand (trade qualification preferred but not essential).
• Proven experience with mechanical maintenance, plant operations or facilities management.
• Strong attention to detail, proactive attitude and ability to work independently.
• Comfortable working in a safety-critical, compliance-focused environment.
• Full, clean NZ Class 1 driver’s licence (company vehicle provided for work use).
• Must be able to pass a 100% clean background check.
• Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand (no visa sponsorship available).
• Able to provide two forms of ID.
