Are you an execution powerhouse who thrives on making things work brilliantly?
We are looking for an Operations and Finance Manager who brings strong technical accounting capability and a genuine desire to help people do their best work. Someone who understands public practice operations, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in creating clarity, structure, and steady delivery.
As a technically strong and experienced accountant, you understand public practice operations and know how to turn strategy into real progress. You will help shape how our teams work, play a role in lifting their capability, and make our operational and financial engine run smoothly. Importantly, you will help us create an environment where people are supported, enabled, and proud of the work they do. You understand the rhythm of the work, you can spot what’s not flowing properly, and you genuinely enjoy strengthening systems and structure that help people deliver brilliant work without chaos.
This is a Leadership Team role with shared responsibility, accountability for outcomes, and a relentless focus on delivery. No heroes. No silos. We get the mahi done and succeed together.
What you will deliver:
Taking a holistic view, you will manage the daily flow of operational performance and delivery across advisory, accounting, GST, bookkeeping, and client service. You’ll report directly to the CEO as a member of the Leadership Team, with autonomy over operational decisions, resource allocation, and process improvement. You’ll have a voice in leadership decisions and the backing of the Board to make the right calls with pace and confidence.
- Active management of workflow, capacity, quality, and delivery. You’ll know what’s happening, where the pressure points are, and how to sort them before they become problems.
- Operational and financial performance controls, metrics and reporting – owning McIntyre Dick’s financial reporting to the Leadership Team and Board, ensuring robust financial oversight and accountability
- System and process improvements that genuinely make work smoother and better
- Growing capability across our operational leads and wider team. Helping people develop, step up, and feel confident in what they’re doing.
You will thrive here if:
- You are an accountant with a solid technical accounting background and experience leading operations in public practice.
- You’re pragmatic and action-oriented, you turn ideas into outcomes that stick.
- You value clarity and efficiency, but you also get that people aren’t robots. You create structure that helps, not hinders.
- Believe in the power of a connected team that is aligned on purpose and values
- You’re collaborative and low-ego. We don’t do silos here and we own outcomes together.
Why join us:
At MDP, we care about people and progress in equal measure. We are a progressive firm that values clarity, improvement, and execution, and we are committed to helping our team thrive in their work and their lives.
As the operational and financial performance driver, you will have real influence, autonomy, and the backing of a Leadership Team and Board that’s committed to doing things well. No corporate nonsense, no unnecessary hierarchy, just good people working together to deliver great outcomes for our clients and each other.
This role will challenge you, give you scope to make a meaningful difference every day, and put you at the heart of a firm that’s building something worth being part of.
In your first year, success looks like: You’ll have mapped our operational capacity across service lines, identified and addressed our key bottlenecks and pressure points, and supported our operational team to be confident and capable in delivering excellence across their areas. You’ll play a key role in embedding tech stack changes and have made measurable improvements to how work flows through our business.
If this sounds like you, let’s talk. Please send your CV and cover letter to Grace at graced@mdp.co.nz. Applications for this role will close 12 February 2026.
We’re particularly interested in hearing from CAs with public practice operations experience, whether you’re currently in Southland or considering a move to Invercargill.
